A woman is charged with stealing charity funds raised to help a LeClaire family with medical expenses, according to a press release.
A LeClaire family, who held an event to raise money to cover their daughter’s medical expenses, contacted police after they did not receive vendor funds totaling $972. Barbara Ritter, 59, who organized the vendor fair portion of the fundraiser, is charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, after she admitted to the theft.

Police discovered Ritter had deposited the funds into her personal bank account. Ritter admitted she used the funds for “personal financial obligations,” according to the press release.
Ritter remained in Scott County Jail on $2,000 bond as of Wednesday evening.
